ICN layover

A layover in Seoul (ICN)

The city is 45 min–1h 10m from Incheon each way, so budget around 2.3 hours of travel for the round trip before immigration and security. Seoul Station is 43–51 minutes away on the AREX Express and about an hour on the all-stop train. Allow at least 2.5 hours back at Incheon before an international departure.

Can you leave the airport?

That depends on your passport and ticket. Check the official rules before you plan anything outside the terminal:

We link the official sources rather than summarise entry rules, because they change and differ by nationality.

Your connection depends on the inbound flight. Over the last four weeks, 87.2% of tracked arrivals at Incheon landed within 15 minutes of their usual time; about 1 in 43 was more than an hour late. On a tight connection, book the earlier inbound flight or a longer layover.

0–6 hours

Stay airside or join a transit tour

Incheon runs free transit tours of 1 to 5 hours, led by English-speaking guides (admission and meals are extra). Book at a Transit Tour desk in either terminal; check whether you need entry approval for your passport first.

6–12 hours

Hongdae or Seoul Station

Take the AREX into the city: get off at Hongik University for Hongdae's streets and food, or ride to Seoul Station and walk to Namdaemun market. Keep to one neighbourhood on the AREX line so the journey back is simple.

12–24 hours

Palaces and Myeong-dong

From Seoul Station, the metro reaches Gyeongbokgung palace and Bukchon's hanok streets, then Myeong-dong for street food in the evening. Leave Myeong-dong at least three hours before your flight.
