A layover in Doha

The city is 20–30 min from Hamad each way, so budget around 1 hours of travel for the round trip before immigration and security. Hamad is compact: immigration is usually quick, but re-entry security for departures is thorough. Plan to be back 2 hours before your onward flight.

Stay airside

Under six hours, the maths doesn't work once you add immigration both ways. Hamad's airside has quiet rooms, the Orchard indoor garden and paid lounges; showers are available in lounges and at the airport hotel.

6–10 hours

Souq Waqif and the Corniche

Take the Red Line to Msheireb, walk to Souq Waqif for food, then along the Corniche towards the Museum of Islamic Art. Keep it to one area and head back with time to spare.

10–24 hours

A proper half-day

Add the National Museum of Qatar or Msheireb Downtown. In summer, daytime heat is severe — plan indoor stops between midday and late afternoon.
